Structured Literacy

HMH curriculum is called Into Reading and is taught in modules.  Each module has weekly quizzes and an end of module assessment.  These modules are themed based.  Each student has an inquiry based, research project due at the end of the module, to apply what they have learned.  Books are engaging and focus on the content theme.   When educators use systematic, cumulative, explicit, and diagnostic instruction, students receive instruction that is appropriate to their development, are provided the time required to master skills, and make substantial growth in their literacy skills.

Into Writing teaches students to systematically write narrative writing, Expository writing and persuasive or argumentative writing.  Writing workshop will be structured around the writing process that includes, brainstorming or pre-writing, drafting, giving and receiving feedback, revising, editing, publishing, sharing.

Fundations

Fundations® utilizes a structured literacy approach grounded in the science of reading to make learning to read fun while laying the groundwork for lifelong literacy. The program’s research-based approach and extensive materials allow K–3 teachers to confidently present a carefully structured reading, spelling, and handwriting curriculum using engaging, multi-sensory techniques. Fundations is aligned with the science of reading and guides teachers to provide effective instructional practices.

Explicit phonemic awareness and phonics instruction come together in our new K-2 foundational skills curriculum!  Teachers orally segment, blend, delete, add and substitute phonemes to build student phonological Awareness.
